#2: The IVY Tech Award goes to François Vonthron (Poppins)
The IVY Tech Award has been granted to François Vonthron, who was selected from three finalists by the IVY Club, a network of business and technology leaders. Vonthron's digital medical device, Poppins, offers a scientifically validated solution to help families monitor and support children’s development. This award recognizes early-stage entrepreneurs and aims to identify promising talents in the French tech sector. Poppins addresses the needs of families who often struggle to access effective child development tracking tools.
#3: Poland – a new potential leader in cultivated meat production?
Poland is on the verge of a major shift in food production, with the potential to earn billions through cell-cultivated meat, as highlighted in Systemiq's recent report, "The Future of Cultivated Meat in Europe." This technology, which grows meat from animal cells, offers a sustainable and ethical alternative to traditional farming. With increasing investments from Polish companies, the country could emerge as a leader in the global market for lab-grown meat, offering significant environmental and economic benefits.
At the same time, cultivated meat production sparks controversy. Hungary is considering a ban on cultivated meat, following Italy’s example, as discussed in a recent meeting between Hungary's Agriculture Minister István Nagy and Ettore Prandini, president of Italy's Farmers Association. The ban is seen as a way to protect traditional farming and rural values. Hungary is also working on EU-level discussions about the future of food regulation and the role of domestic farming in the face of increasing competition from foreign agricultural products. The issue is part of Hungary’s broader agricultural policy dialogue.
#4: Alan expands to Canada
European unicorn Alan, a leading health insurance provider, has expanded into Canada, marking the country’s first new health insurance company in nearly 70 years. This expansion highlights Alan’s growing influence in the global market and signals a significant shift in Canada's health insurance landscape. The company's move could reshape how health services are delivered, offering a more modern and digital approach to insurance.
